Sol Allphin: You do have the choice to use one of your repair shops as opposed to the one that the company picks. Dont be fooled into thinking that a company assigned shop is going to do a cheap job the wrong way, they are licensed mechanics as well as any shop you go to. Usually when they have an appointed one they are familiar with the rates they provide for work and are comfortable with their diagnosis on a vehicle. As for the parts, unles your policy has a replacement cost endorsement on it the insurance company has the choice to repair or replace parts of their choice, factory or not. If you want to use a shop of your choice usually they will send out an independant adjuster to evaluate your vehicle first to make sure there is nothing fishy going on. Good luck...Show more
Marcellus Yoshimori: "NO" in capital letters! It is your right to use a repair shop of your choice. Some adjusters will try to persuade you to use a "company authorized shop" which means the! shop will use after market parts, and repair the vehicle as cheaply as possible. If you are leasing your car often somewhere in your lease agreement is a clause stating that accident damage repairs require the use of factory parts. Pick a shop you are comfortable with and tell the adjuster "No thanks".
