Computer networking procedure: Hi, I have two computers with lan card installed and red networking cord joined

Hal Palowoda: to get the fast and best results u have to use the router to connect ur computers. The other methods described above will work too but the the transfer rate of sharing data between these computers will be much slower. With the prices dropping for routers every day, it won't be hard to find a router for less than 20 bucks (if ur considering connecting through ethernet cables). There is also no extensive configuration involved. Ethernet router is usually plug and play. Then all u have to do is enable ur share folder on each one of ur computers to allow file sharing. Another thing u can do is to contact ur ISP and ask them if u can upgrade ur modem (if u have high speed internet service), u may get a better deal that way. if ur computers are far away from each other, like in a different room or something, u might wana setup a wireless network....Show more

Robt Heemstra: I think you have to have a router between them. Have you tried the "setup a network" ! under Networking. In networking all you can do is share files, and printers etc... You can't double your computing performance that way.

Mitsuko Manne: Best you can do without a router or switch between is an adhoc network. Windows has a network wizard built in. You can find this from start menu and then choose my network places on the next window look on the left for the link to setup a network.choose the adhock settings give your network a name and make sure both computers are set with same workgroup name. you will only be able to share files etc. not the system resource. This is the norm for all network setups....Show more

Jimmie Doerfler: The easiest way is connecting both computers using crossover cable:Connect 2 Computers Directly Using Crossover Cable http://www.home-network-help.com/crossover.htmlThe other method is set up a network using a router to share Internet connection:Ethernet Home Network Setup Tutorialhttp://www.home-network-help.com/home-netwo! rk.htmlWireless Home Network Setup Tutorialhttp://www.home-net! work-help.com/wireless-network....Hope helps.....Show more
