hdmi switch with optical out and 120hz?

Gilberto Cratin: Hdmi Switch With Optical Out

Luis Farlow: The HDMI switch will be okay for your games console connections to the TV and for splitting audio off to feed sound from both consoles to the soundbar. Also, your TV being 120Hz makes no difference as far as the consoles are concerned. 120Hz processing happens inside the TV, it's nothing to do with the signals as they're delivered from the consoles. The only problem I can see with your plan is audio from the TV itself. There's no HDMI output from the TV, only inputs. The TV can only accept HDMI signals going in to it. The reason why there's no Optical output for sound on some of latest flat panel TVs is that have a feature called ARC (Audio Return Channel). This uses a special HDMI input on the TV to provide audio out. The catch is that the only audio devices that can make use of this have to have a HDMI socket with the ARC feature too. If your soundbar doesn't have one then you've got a problem. To solve th! is you;d normally have to buy a much better (more expensive) soundbar. That might still be your best option. But you'll need one with at least 3 HDMI sockets. The alternative is a much better switch that includes ARC and the optical out that you need for your current soundbar. The better switch might have some features you don't need but that's a necessary compromise you'll have to accept to the get features that you DO need. Have a look at this on Amazon for about $90. http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Prosumer-Support-Adva......Show more
