Codi Manchel: Some of my friends like a game called Settlers of Catan. The Amazing Labyrinth (or, The aMAZEing Labyrinth) is also a lot of fun. The rules for each of these come up on a Google search if you want to check them out.Apples to Apples, especially if you're playing with an interesting group of people, or people who all know each other pretty well... Bananagrams isn't a board game, but is also fun - it's basically speed Scrabble....Show more
Rayford Latz: Thanks, Daniel, I'll get that one. If the group doesn't like it, my son will.
Majorie Chester: there is a board game called STD's and thats unusual i guess im not sure how to find it though
Leisa Brodnex: I am one of the people that plays games similar to the style you have just been introduced to, I have a copy of Haunting House and love it, very fun, very weird game. I especially love playing around Halloween.Have you found Board Game Geek yet? It's a great database/forum/social-ish site t! hat is all about boardgames.Today I actually collected up my Birthday Monies and went out and got four games. Those games are "Forbidden Island", "No Thanks!", "Poison" and "Lost Cities". Forbidden Island is a co-op adventure game where players are all on a sinking island. They have to find four sacred treasure items and escape the island as pieces of it sink under the water. Each turn more locations will sink under and the players may not be able to get to the locations to raise them back up before they sink again. And there are cards that make the island sink faster and faster! There is a great video review of this that made me want to buy it. I'll link to that below. No Thanks! is a very simple card game. In the middle of the table there is a card, you don't want to take cards because cards are worth points and points are bad. If you decide not to take the card you put a token on it, tokens are good because they're worth negative points, so giving up points is kind of pai! nful sometimes. Eventually there will be enough tokens on a ca! rd to make it appealing, so you'll take it and all the tokens. The game continues like this until all the cards have been played. It's that simple, that's the entire game, and it's SO FUN! There is a strategic aspect to it where if you have a run of three or more cards they are worth only the lowest value(so 13, 14 would be worth 27 points but 13, 14, 15 would be worth only 13 points)Poison I haven't played yet but it's by Reiner Knizia and I really like his games and I have heard good things about this game. It has to do with filling potion cauldrons without making them over flow. I haven't even had time to read the rules yet on this one.Lost Cities is also from Dr. Knizia and is about funding explorations. This is one of the highest rated two player games on Board Game Geek. Each turn you play cards, trying to build up a good exploration at some of the sites, trying to get a good amount of points, but each location that you start costs 20 points to begin with, so you have! to make sure you don't open too many explorations or else you will be deep in the hole. There are many other great games out there too, including Ingenious, Dominion, Pandemic and Puerto Rico(which is a fantastic game, but it's a fairly complex one so be ready for a complex game that has a lot of choices in it). You can find all those on Board Game Geek by doing a search. Ingenious is a tile laying game that is fantastic, Dominion is a card game where you build the deck that you're playing with while you play the game, Pandemic is from the same designer as Forbidden Island and is about fighting viruses(it's really good) and Puerto Rico is about... growing things and then selling them and then growing more things and selling those. I swear Puerto Rico is a lot more fun than I make it sound.OK, so I put a bunch of links below. I had a link to most of them on BGG already in a Geeklist so that was easy, but you'll notice I didn't link to Pandemic or Ingenious because I hadn't ! put them on the list and I'm very tired right now.So yeah: Welcome to t! he Board Game hobby. I hope this has been helpful. You can find most of these games at your Friendly Local Gaming Store(FLGS) and they will also usually be able to help you with descriptions of the games if you ask about them. Also if you want to see some great Board Game reviews Tom Vasel has done a lot of great reviews that are on You Tube for The Dice Tower Board Game Reviews. I'll link to the review that made me buy Forbidden Island, and he has a lot of great video reviews on there. I find myself watching several of them every week....Show more
Rubye Bonnin: Dementomstie gave a lot of great info! The only site missing is www.TheGameAisle.com.
