Jana Sakasegawa: Seriously, I recommend making your own toys. If you think you don't have time to make a really great bird toy, you are sadly mistaken. Not you, anyone who thinks that for a second, I mean. With four parrots, different sizes, I go through a lot of toys. Every day I have to find something for my macaw to destroy. I watched him tear up a forty dollar toy in three hours. He was SOOOO happy! But there is no way I can afford toys at that rate. You can get all kinds of really great toy ideas from the internet. Just google "making parrot toys". Most of my best toys come from the recycle bin. You c! an use any cardboard that food comes in, plastic lids, plastic bottles with a wooden bead in it, straws,.... The list is endless. I drill a hole in just about anythign and string it onto a ring and hang the ring in the bird cage. I bought a spool of cotton rope and string beads and make knots and string bottle caps on it and hang it in the cage, nearly every morning. He always looks forward to whatever I give him. Sometimes I hide nuts in the toy, wrapped in tissue paper or just a foot toy for them to unwrap. Each bird likes something different it seems and since i am making the toys, I can adapt them easily to what is needed by each bird. Since I made them, if the toys drop to the floor and get soiled, I can just throw them away. Depending on the size of your bird, baby toys make great parrot toys. The bright C rings are great things to hang toys with also. My homemade bird toys (I call them ghetto toys, they are often so ugly) may not look so pretty as the store ! bought ones, but when the toy you spent forty dollars on is in! splinters at the bottom of the cage, it looks pretty mucht he same as my ghetto toys. I also use plastic measuring spoons and just about anything I think will interest them for a few minutes. You can also drill holes in coconut shells and scraps of wood you get feromt he bin at Home Depot (you have to be careful what kindof wood you use, pine is best I think) Pheonix Landing is a GREAT site to get free ideas and if you can go to one of their seminars, GO. They are always informative and practical, presented by some really brilliant parrot people who want you and your bird to get along and offer this information for FREE jsut to make your bird happier. Seriously, it takes me five minutes to make four new toys every day and my birds are happy and always have safe toys to play with. And if you want pretty, you can make them pretty too. Just make sure any dyed wood is parrot safe vegetable dye. Mostof all, you will save big money....Show more
